I, Ophelia (Epilogue)

~

⚠️Trigger Warning: The following poem contains subject matter pertaining to suicidal ideation⚠️

~

An emulation of Gertrude's monologue from William Shakespeare's Hamlet

~

There is a bridge built across the river

therewith fantastic pain

of the mind did I come.

There, on the rock-ribbed shore,

half undressing,

the envious kilt pin

broke

when down my skirt

dropped

like a dehydrated fishtail

Waded into the weeping bow,

my button-up spread wide

and mermaid-esque awhile it bore me

up

like Ophelia native and indued

unto her element

till that the river thirsty to

drown

threatened to pull me

to my muddy death.
